It's August of 2018, and I'm sitting at a desk in an office for the nonprofit company I worked for. At the time I was making $15 an hour, working 40 hours a week. Much of my time there was a big blur, but one day I remember waking up in what I'd call the worst mood I've ever been in. The only thought that kept repeating in my head was "I don't want to go." Of course, it was about work. But me being the sheep I was at the time, I forced myself to pick up my bag, get into my car, and drive to work.
The uncomfortable feeling in my chest slowly started turning into a panic attack. But still, stubborn as I was, I forced myself to go.
As I sat at my desk, I found myself hyper-fixated on the red hand of the clock hanging above the door. I did no work for those three hours. I just sat there, waiting, until the clock struck 12. At 11:57, I shot out of my desk to go out for lunch.
As I walked into the office building, I saw piles of people moving around, waiting for elevators, some running for the stairs.
"I want more than this."
That was what kept repeating in my head. I got into my car, and without fully realizing what I was doing, I called my boss and told him, "I'm not coming back."
He said, "Oh no, are you sick? Do you need the day off?"
The poor guy, he was so nice.
"No, I quit."
I hung up the phone. That day was the last day I worked at a "job."
Since then, I've always made sure to live my life on my own terms rather than someone else's.
To keep this short: in the past few years, I've become self-employed. I launched a media company that does more than well. I've owned a digital marketing company (it made money, but I hated it), and now I’m a full time Life Coach ( I love doing this more than anything )
I believe that everyone, including you, has skills that could be used to build a life you actually want. Although it works for some people, I don't think you should feel forced to live life in someone else's image. I believe you should find the thing that's calling you and follow it until it becomes you.
I'm not great at calls to action, but I'll say this:
